Short answer. Normal recovery has one signature: things improve — pain eases, bleeding fades, energy climbs, even if unevenly. The warning signs are the reversals: fever, pain that worsens instead of easing, bleeding that turns heavy or foul-smelling, a wound growing red or leaking, trouble passing urine, or a swollen painful leg and breathlessness. Any of those earns a same-day call — and the leg-and-breathing pair earns urgent care, not a waiting room debate.
Normal healing versus a warning: the direction test
Recovery from fibroid surgery is noisy — twinges, pulling sensations at incisions, tiredness, mood dips and spotting are all part of the ordinary soundtrack. A swollen, painful calf — especially one-sided — can mean a clot in the leg veins; sudden breathlessness, chest pain or coughing blood can mean that clot has traveled to the lungs. Severe abdominal pain with a rigid belly, fainting, or bleeding that soaks pads hour after hour belong in the same category. These are emergency-department presentations: the right response is to go, not to observe overnight and see.
