Your Trusted Guide on a Miraculous Journey
Pregnancy is one of the most special, exciting, yet uncertain periods in a woman’s life. In this 40-week adventure where two cells transform into a human being, protecting the mother’s physical health and monitoring the baby’s development step-by-step is of vital importance.
Obstetrics, the branch of medicine covering childbirth and pregnancy, is a holistic approach that centers not just on the baby, but on the mother as well. At Dr. Cengiz Andan’s Clinic, our goal is to ensure our expectant mothers pass through this process free from fear and anxiety, guided by scientific data, in safety and joy.
In your search for pregnancy tracking in Istanbul, our clinic combines modern technology with sincere communication, standing by your side at every step from pre-conception counseling to postpartum care.
- The First Step: Pre-Conception Counseling (Planned Pregnancy)
A healthy baby comes from a healthy mother. Therefore, the ideal pregnancy is a planned one. A consultation 3 months before conceiving minimizes risks.
What Happens in This Consultation?
- General Health Screening: Chronic conditions like thyroid issues, diabetes, or hypertension are brought under control.
- Gynecological Exam: The uterus is checked for fibroids, polyps, or infections. A Pap smear is taken.
- Vitamin Support: Folic Acid supplementation is started, which is critical for the baby’s spinal development.
- Genetic Counseling: Risk analysis is performed if there is a family history of hereditary diseases.
- Pregnancy Tracking: Managing the Trimesters
The pregnancy process is divided into three main periods (Trimesters), each with its own specific tests and monitoring procedures.
1st Trimester (0 – 13 Weeks): The Beginning and The Heartbeat
- First Exam: Confirmation that the gestational sac is inside the uterus (ruling out ectopic pregnancy). The baby’s heartbeat is heard around weeks 6-7.
- Screening Tests: Between weeks 11-14, the Double Marker Test and nuchal translucency measurement are performed to assess Down Syndrome risk. Optionally, the NIPT (Fetal DNA) test can be done from the mother’s blood for 99% accurate genetic screening.
2nd Trimester (14 – 27 Weeks): Detailed Examination
- Quadruple Screening Test: Performed between weeks 16-18 if deemed necessary.
- Detailed (Anomaly) Ultrasound: Between weeks 20-22, using Perinatology (High-Risk Pregnancy) principles, every organ of the baby (brain, heart, kidneys, fingers, etc.) is examined one by one.
- Glucose Tolerance Test: Screening for hidden gestational diabetes is done between weeks 24-28.
3rd Trimester (28 Weeks – Birth): The Final Stretch
- Growth Tracking: The baby’s weight gain, amniotic fluid levels, and position are monitored.
- NST (Non-Stress Test): After week 36, the baby’s heartbeat and uterine contractions are regularly monitored.
- Birth Planning: Normal delivery or Cesarean? The decision is made based on the pelvic exam and the baby’s condition.
- High-Risk Pregnancy Management
Not every pregnancy progresses smoothly. Dr. Cengiz Andan offers experienced management for high-risk pregnancies:
- Preeclampsia (Pregnancy Poisoning): High blood pressure and protein leakage in urine. Requires strict monitoring.
- Gestational Diabetes: Pregnancy sugar levels are managed with diet or insulin.
- Preterm Labor Threat: Preventive treatments (Cerclage, medication) are applied if there is cervical shortening or early contractions.
- Multiple Pregnancies: Twins or triplets require more frequent checks.
- The Birth: The Grand Meeting
The mode of delivery (Vaginal Birth or Cesarean) usually becomes clear after the 37th week of pregnancy.
- Normal Birth: Our priority is always the natural path. If the mother and baby’s health allows, the labor process is followed in its natural flow. Epidural (Painless Birth) options provide comfort.
- Cesarean Section: Surgical delivery is planned if the baby is in a breech position, the placenta covers the cervix (placenta previa), the baby is in distress, or there has been a previous cesarean (and VBAC is not suitable).
- Postpartum and Breastfeeding Period
The process doesn’t end with birth. During the “4th Trimester” (postpartum period), counseling services continue regarding the mother’s recovery, breastfeeding education, psychological support, and contraception methods.
Dr. Cengiz Andan is not just your doctor during your pregnancy adventure, but a reliable companion accompanying you and your baby on this miraculous path.
Frequently Asked Questions (Pregnancy Tracking)
- When should I come for the first pregnancy exam?Answer:It is ideal to come 1 week after your missed period (approximately 5-6 weeks of pregnancy). At this stage, the gestational sac is clearly visible.
- Is the glucose tolerance test harmful to the baby?Answer:No, this is a scientifically unfounded claim. The 50g or 75g of sugar consumed is equivalent to two slices of baklava or a sweet dessert. If diabetes goes undiagnosed, high blood sugar can cause permanent harm to the baby (disabilities, large baby, sudden death). Therefore, the test is vital.
- Is a 4D Ultrasound done at every visit?Answer:Medical tracking is done with 2D ultrasound. However, 4D (colored) images can be taken during appropriate weeks to show the family the baby’s face and strengthen the bond.
- Can I do sports during pregnancy?Answer:If there is no risk of miscarriage, yes. Walking, swimming, pregnancy pilates, and yoga both facilitate childbirth and reduce back pain.
- In what situations should I contact the doctor immediately?Answer:You should contact your doctor without delay in cases of vaginal bleeding, water breaking, decreased fetal movement, severe headache, or blurred vision.
