Endometriosis

Endometriosis is a chronic female disease caused by tissues similar to the uterine lining (endometrium) implanting outside the uterus, especially in areas such as the ovaries, fallopian tubes, and peritoneum. These tissues respond to hormones in the menstrual cycle each month and tend to bleed. However, since this bleeding cannot be expelled from the body, it can cause inflammation, adhesions, and, over time, cyst formation. When they develop in the ovaries, these cysts are called chocolate cysts due to the dark brown fluid they contain.

Endometriosis is seen in approximately 10% of women of reproductive age and in 70% of those experiencing severe menstrual pain. Its symptoms include painful menstruation (dysmenorrhea), pain during sexual intercourse (dyspareunia), discomfort during defecation or urination, and inability to have children (infertility). In some women, however, it may be detected only during infertility investigations without any symptoms.

The forms of the disease that have spread to deeper and more advanced tissues are called deep endometriosis. Additionally, the condition of adenomyosis, which occurs when endometrial tissues spread into the uterine muscle tissue, is also considered a type of endometriosis and can lead to similar complaints.

In diagnosis, ultrasonography and pelvic examination are usually the first steps; however, a definitive diagnosis is most often made through Laparoscopic surgery. The treatment approach varies according to the severity of the disease, the patient’s age, and her plan to have children. While medication may be sufficient in mild cases, surgery or IVF treatment may be recommended in advanced-stage cases.let’s explore the various services we offer for treatment together.
